<image:caption>Conceived as a mobile unit, this artist's studio is perfectly suited for the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains of New York. Inspired by the simple barn typology, the unit is economical in size utilizing standard lumber sizes. Totally self sufficient, the residence utilized 2 separate water retention systems below its oversize roof, an organic composting toilet, and a composting kitchen. Hot water is provided by solar convection for the indoor outdoor shower, and an RV battery provides low voltage power and lighting. Sliding bay doors allow for cross ventilation and unhindered views. Elevated off the ground, the studio is on skids which when required to be be mobile can be connected to a wheel base, or when a permanent location is found, the perfect height for a foundation with crawl space. Finally, the roof and wall trellises produce horizontal and vertical surfaces for roof gardening herb and vegetables. Sustainable, environmentally sensitive, and with a limited carbon footprint, this studio is the perfect summer retreat to escape the city.</image:caption>

<image:title>WESTCHESTER ARCHITECT OWEN MCEVOY - Upper East Side - UES ELEGANT STUDIO APARTMENT RENOVATION</image:title>
<image:caption>Originally a cramped and dark studio, the client wanted to explore options for opening and brightening the space. The studio had been misguidedly divided into a front and back with a windowless rear kitchen. This had resulted in a very dark studio and a cramped living space. Buy removing this partition wall, we allowed light to flood from the bedroom windows into the rear of the apartment. A new walk in closet, refinished floors, simple and affordable furniture all add to the refined elegance. The kitchen was reconfigured with new cabinets and dark granite counter tops to create visual contrast and make the white of the kitchen cabinets pop. To further reinforce the drama of the space, in cabinet and under cabinets lights were added, resulting in an elegance and luxury unusual in a studio apartment.</image:caption>

<image:caption>As a single family residence in New Rochelle, New York this county style cottage stands apart from it's neighboring tudor homes. Located in the Larchmont Woods neighborhood of lower Westchester County, this home had undergone a series of poorly executed renovations since first constructed in 1928. This resulted in a house with poor circulation, wood plank walls, and a overall dark and heavy interior. Owen McEvoy Architect looked at the home holistically, and designing both the interiors and exterior additions, created a lighter, brighter, friendlier and cozy environment. The first step was creating a proper entrance, with a covered porch and a formal entry foyer, separating the living area from the front door and providing an large coat closet. The foyer was designed to welcome guests and provide site lines to the rear of the house. All the existing wood paneling was replaced with sheetrock. The kitchen was completely opened up to the dining room. A breakfast bar bookended by columned openings creates a freely flowing kitchen, perfect for nightly dinner, and hosting parties. the island stove and exhaust hood act as a focal point in this display kitchen. Light now floods the downstairs, having created an open floor plan. All molding was replaced, cased openings added, new lighting, and warm bright colors chosen. Completed, its a house you can imagine yourself living in.</image:caption>

      <image:title>WESTCHESTER ARCHITECT OWEN MCEVOY - East End Avenue - MANHATTAN 2 BEDROOM CO-OP RENOVATION</image:title>
<image:caption>When purchased by the clients, this 2 bedroom Manhattan coop, located on the upper east side of New York City, had not been touched in 30 years. Upgrading and refinishing required a full gut renovation. For a growing family, this couple needed a new bathroom with soaking tub, a kitchen with a pass through breakfast bar, and ample closet space. The bathroom is a combination of marble cut into subway tile sizes, and large format porcelain tile on the floors. A new vanity, medicine cabinet, lighting and mirror provide a fresh and clean look. The kitchen cabinets are white painted wood with a shaker style finish. Marble counter tops and stainless steel fixtures make the kitchen both modern with a colonial comfort. The pass through kitchen counter at counter height is perfect for a group of seating at the display kitchen. The over sized master bedroom was large enough to easily permit a closet expansion, allowing for a luxurious walk in closet, easily subdivided into his and her areas. Complete with clothes racks, shelves, and shoe racks, pocket doors were versatile in saving room and doubling as floor to ceiling mirrors. The mirrors help to reflect light and increase the perceived size of the room.</image:caption>

<image:title>WESTCHESTER ARCHITECT OWEN MCEVOY - Upper West Side - UWS TWO BEDROOM MODERN LOFT RENOVATION</image:title>
<image:caption>Located in a co-op on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City, this two bedroom apartment offered a wonderful design opportunity. As a typical postwar 5 room apartment, the client chose to transform the space into an open loft concept. Inspired by residences in Tribeca, Soho, and the West Village, the renovation demolished compartmentalizing walls between the kitchen and living room. This move allows light to flow through the apartment, increases visual and physical circulation, and ties the entire apartment together. A breakfast bar provides additional seating capacity, while the cabinet and appliance reorganization allows for an eat-in kitchen. The L-shape configuration creates a center island. A newly renovated bathroom, fresh paint throughout, and built in closets create a loft experience in an otherwise typical postwar coop.</image:caption>

<image:title>WESTCHESTER ARCHITECT OWEN MCEVOY - Rye Residence - WESTCHESTER OUTDOOR LIVING ROOM</image:title>
<image:caption>Located in Rye, New York within Westchester County, the current configuration of this residence had limited access to the outdoors. An existing deck was underutilized, and the natural flow to the outside was hindered by a compressed space at the door. The solution was to create an outdor living room, a covered 3 season screen porch with an outdoor kitchen, and an enlargement to the existing kitchen by creating a breakfast nook. The deck was integrated into the kitchen by enlarging the existing opening into large French doors, at the breakfast nook, which eliminated the circulation bottleneck. Utilizing local stone and cedar wood, the deck is designed to complement the existing home. Covered with and arbor, the deck will have filtered sunlight, retractable screens, vines and creeping ivy growing up the trellis, all to tie the new addition back into nature. Stone pavers create a large exterior seating area under an old growth cherry tree, perfect for entertaining large parties; and the outdoor kitchen has a hard lined gas grill, refrigerator, a bar with water and ice perfect for guest's convenience. The result is an integration with nature, a blurring of inside and outside, and an outdoor place for New York City transplants to enjoy.</image:caption>

Ground floor retail and an entrance lobby create a street presence suitable for a boutique flagship retail tenant. Various office tenants would occupy the upper floors, including the various affiliated offices of the Peace Pentagon. A roof garden would be shared, as would other building amenities such as conference rooms and break rooms. <image:caption>A competition for the Peace Pentagon, this mixed use development maximizes the air rights and building envelope while conceptually expressing the mission of peace through a atrium and curtain system wall. This inter-connectivity of users programs would allow for cross pollination of ideas.</image:caption>

<image:caption>In 1959, the New York branch of the Guggenheim Museum designed by Frank Lloyd Wright opened. The museum immediately became a landmark with its cylindrical form and spiral ramp. Reinterpreted and utilizing modern modeling technologies of the 21st century Wright's vision has been reinterpreted. Utilizing biomorphic software, a series of simply morphogenetic procedures allowed for the construction of a 3 dimensional building. The museum's structure and organization naturally evolved into a spiralling skeletal system organized around a central atrium. Separate galleries and other program elements were a natural result of the process, grown from interstitial spaces and self actualized volumes, effectively organs for the museum. Located in Dublin, Ireland, this museum strives to continue the established mission of cutting edge architectural extravagance embraced by the Guggenheim.</image:caption>

<image:title>WESTCHESTER ARCHITECT OWEN MCEVOY - Greenwich French Farm - GREENWICH CONNECTICUT FARMHOUSE</image:title>
<image:caption>The French Farm in Greenwich Connecticut is a landmark or Fairfield County listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally designed by Henry Van Buren Magonigle, the farm was used as a summer estate by the French family. Over the years the farm developed into a landscape and arts center. The owner wanted to expand this historic property by building an addition to an existing barn, enlarging an artists residence, and reconstructing a wall and arbor that had fallen into disrepair. The artists residence was originally a carriage house that had been converted. A large attic area was underutilized. Adding eyebrow dormers in the French manor style increased the head height of the space, allowing the attic to be converted into a bedroom with a bathroom. The barn addition maintained similar proportions to the existing barn structure. Separated by a breezeway, it was conceived as an area for classrooms and artist work area. All work was designed to respect the historic nature of the farm, its proportions, and character.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Entered as a competition, this Chapel for Airmen of the US Airforce is located in Virginia. Drawing inspiration from jet fighters, the architecture of the building reflects the propulsion components from a jet fighter. Entering into a compressed space, the volume of the chapel soars upwards and outwards to the altar. As a non-denominational church, the design utilizes the contrails of a missing man flyby formation as the centerpiece of the design. Arranged around a center axis, private chapels are interspersed along the sides of the main naive. Slot windows and pendant lights add to the spiritual dimension of the space, along with light chimneys that bring sunlight into the center of the space.</image:caption>
